Blue and white marli bowl on red glaze - braiding pattern
Blue and white marli bowl on red glaze - braiding pattern
A regular and symmetrical pattern for a braiding effect, with small butterfly shapes. A white engobe, a mixture of glaze and fusible materials, was applied with a brush before stamping to highlight the braiding pattern.
This bowl was turned then stamped by hand, each pattern requires 9 applications of 4 or 5 different tools. The contrast between the deep blue and the whites of the engobe and the enamel highlights the shape but also the contrast of textures, between softness and "roughness".
